IUEC Local One Recognizes Veterans - (11/11/2020)

NATION’S LARGEST ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTORS UNION RECOGNIZES VETERANS FOR THEIR SERVICE AND INVITES THEM TO EXPLORE POST-MILITARY APPRENTICESHIP AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN ORGANIZED BUILDING TRADES

NEW YORK (Nov. 11) – The following statement was released today by the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local One Business Manager Lenny Legotte:

"On behalf of the more than 3,000 hardworking men and women represented by Local One, I first want to thank our nation’s heroes for their service. As a Marine, I know the grit that it takes to serve. Veterans are truly the salt of the earth – and, along with our gratitude, they deserve well-paying, fulfilling career opportunities when transitioning from military to civilian life.

"That is why, this Veterans Day, I want all veterans, as well as transitioning active-duty service members, to be aware of the post-military apprenticeship and career opportunities that exist in the organized elevator industry.

"Our apprenticeship training is second to none. Apprentices graduate from IUEC’s training debt-free – and even earn wages and benefits as they work their way through the program. And since our apprenticeship training is regulated and approved at both federal and state levels, veterans enrolled as IUEC apprentices can supplement their income by also utilizing their GI Bill benefits.

"At the core of the union lies a strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood – one that is probably only rivaled by the comradery found within our nation’s Armed Forces.

"My brothers and sisters in the organized elevator industry – including the more than 500 veterans who are currently card-carrying members of Local One – have shaped, and continue to transform, America’s skylines. These individuals served our country then, and they are serving yet again – this time working during the pandemic to ensure elevators in vital pieces of infrastructure, including hospitals, are up and running.

"Bottom line: Serving in the military prepares men and women for tough situations, and this translates perfectly into a career in construction. The union, just like the military, needs forward-looking, capable individuals who show up and get the job done – and done right.

"This isn’t a Veterans Day message – this is a real path to a successful career in the elevator trade that awaits veterans who wish to pursue it."
