    John G. Green

    John Green was born and raised in New York City.  He was honorably discharged from the US Navy having served his country during the Korean conflict.  John joined The International Union of Elevator Constructors Local One in 1957, following the footsteps of his father and uncle.


    In 1974 John was elected to the position of Vice President/Business Agent.  In a hotly contested election John was tied with George Buda and would ultimately win in a run-off election.  During his time as a Business Agent John served on numerous county and area boards.


    In 1984 John was elected President/Business Manager of Local One.  John served in this capacity until 2003.  In this time John held positions on various boards and received many honors and awards.  John served on The New York City Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Board from 1984 through 2003.  In 1986 John was elected Vice President of The International Union of Elevator Constructors at the Denver Convention.  John held the position of Trustees Chairman for the National Elevator Industry Education Program. 


    In 1993 John received the prestigious “Cardinal’s Award” from the Archdiocese of New York.  In 1996 John was the recipient of the “Good Scout Award” given by the Boy Scouts of America.  John served as a Vice President of the New York State Building and Construction Trades Council beginning in 1992 and also served on the New York State AFL-CIO Executive Board.


    Through all the honors, State and National positions John always remained an Elevator Constructor.  He carried the concerns of the average working man or woman to the tables at which he sat.
